Martin was never interested in drums in the first place. I had a 70's CF Martin set, and the bearing edges on a couple of drums were terrible. Although there were some new innovations in terms of pedals and stands and holders, the workmanship on the shells was very inconsistent. Shortly after that, Fibes started using hollywood / Meazzi tom holders and stands from Italy.Īround 1970, Fibes sold out to CF Martin, the guitar company. I used them on the road for a couple of years, and they never failed. The bass and toms had fiberglass re-rings, but the snare did not. Fiberglass shells were a new thing, The workmanship on the shells was good, and the drums killed. It came from the factory with a Roger Swivomatic tom holder and Rogers spurs because Fibes hadn't yet developed their own hardware. The original 60's drums were the best, but good luck finding a set in even decent condition.īack in the day, I gigged on a 60's Fibes set built at the original factory in Farmingdale, NY.
